What is Mazzy Health?

Mazzy is an online community that supports pre-teen and teen mental health. Through 1:1 coaching with a licensed therapist, 1:1 academic support, live and asynchronous classes, and moderated discussions on relevant and engaging topics, we provide a robust platform for adolescents. Unlike some other teletherapy offerings, Mazzy Health uses a concierge approach that allows you and your child to select the therapist you both feel best suits your child’s needs and personality.

Who are Mazzy Health therapists?

Mazzy therapists are fully licensed PhDs, licensed clinical social workers, and/or licensed professional counselors. Our therapists have strong backgrounds in providing therapeutic interventions to adolescents. They are hand-picked and overseen by our clinical director Dr. Susan White, one of the United States’ foremost experts in adolescent psychology. Our therapists use evidence-based approaches with documented effectiveness.

How is Mazzy Health different?

Mazzy Health’s therapists specialize in working with adolescents and young adults and their unique mental health needs. Our personalized, whole-person approach is grounded in evidence-based therapy modalities—methods backed by years of supporting evidence and proven effectiveness. All of Mazzy’s therapists are vetted and selected by our Clinical Director, Dr. Susan White, a fully endowed professor at the University of Alabama and an expert in the field of adolescent mental health. She is associate editor for the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology and the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, and she is the Editor-in-Chief of the ABCT Series on Implementation of Clinical Approaches.

Additionally, Mazzy’s concierge approach allows you and your child to select the therapist best suited to meet your adolescent’s needs.

What do you mean by evidence-based therapy?

“Evidence-based therapy” refers to the practice of using therapeutic approaches that have demonstrated their effectiveness through years of empirical evidence. This means that the therapy techniques used are based on proven, scientifically-supported theories and have been shown to promote positive outcomes for patients.

In contrast to therapies that rely on anecdotal evidence or personal experience, evidence-based therapy is grounded in empirical research and clinical studies. This approach helps ensure that patients receive the most effective and up-to-date treatments available, and that your therapist is following established best practices in the field.

Examples of evidence-based therapies include cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), among others. These therapies have been rigorously studied and shown to be effective in treating a range of mental health conditions, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and more.

Is Mazzy right for me…and my child?

Mazzy may be right for your child if you believe they would benefit from speaking with a professional therapist and academic coach on a weekly basis to work through struggles and toward goals. Mazzy teens work with their coach to conquer common issues such as gaining the comfort and confidence to speak up in class, overcome social anxiety, and even work through depression. For those with higher acuity needs, we refer out to external partners when we feel that more intensive treatment is needed.

We would also love to meet with you (the parent)! If you are interested in having brief, ongoing conversations with an adolescent therapist, we’re here for you. Our work with youth is designed to be a confidential counseling relationship, but we also meet with parents to work through any issues of concern.

What ages do you serve?

We serve ages 10-22. We group peers into cohorts of ages 10-12, 13-15, 16-18, and 19-22 to keep content and age-appropriate discussions highly relevant.

Do you accept insurance?

A number of our therapists accept insurance as in-network providers. We do charge an additional $199 / month fee for the academic coaching and other supports provided with a Mazzy subscription. All major credit cards, HSA, and ACH transfer are accepted.

Which states do you serve?

We have licensed therapists serving adolescents and young adults in 30+ states. We are headquartered in sunny Dallas, Texas.

Do Mazzy Health therapists provide medication?

No. Mazzy Health therapists provide evidence-based therapy for each client. However, all of Mazzy’s therapists are credentialed to work with other health care providers in care coordination with a prescriber, including your child’s pediatrician, primary care physician or a psychiatrist.

Does online therapy work?

Yes! Numerous studies have proven the efficacy of online therapy, and teenagers in particular often feel more comfortable meeting with a therapist online from the comfort of their room.

How much does Mazzy cost?

If paying out of pocket, our plans start at $125 / week (billed monthly). Included in that price: 1:1 weekly sessions with a fully licensed therapist, 1:1 meetings with an academic coach, parent and therapist/coach check-ins, and full access to a robust community of evidence-based supports including live study halls/office hours, live and on-demand yoga classes, and more. These supports are offered through a patient portal and via an app accessed once you sign up for the monthly subscription.

For those requiring a higher level of care, we offer additional plans that include biweekly and longer therapy sessions and more frequent parent-therapist meetings.

For clients using their insurance, we charge an additional $199 monthly subscription fee for our academic coaching and other supports.
